Our Men’s Shed project is based at The Boiler House in Moss Side. It will work with local people, focusing on men’s health and encouraging social integration, skill sharing and community building, facilitated through regular practical sessions.
Supported by One Manchester and the Manchester City Council’s Neighbourhood Investment Fund, Sow the City are running practical sessions to bring together the diverse community of Moss Side.
Men’s sheds are an established model where a community space is created for men to connect, converse and create. The activities are often similar to those of garden sheds, but for groups of men to enjoy together. They help reduce loneliness and isolation but most importantly they’re fun. Moss Side Men’s Shed aims to become a self-sustaining project, creating an income by constructing raised beds and outdoor furniture, and up-cycling furniture provided by One Manchester. Products will be sold to the local community and incorporated into the Sow the City supply chain. The The Boiler House will provide a great space for regular meet ups. The group will help to develop an on site growing space for the local community. Sessions will focus on carpentry, joinery, metalwork, furniture restoration and anything else the volunteers would like to get stuck in to! If you would like to get involved take a look at the flyer here Or if you would like to commission the Men’s Shed team to undertake any projects, please get in touch!
