The Boiler House is a friendly community workshop space dedicated to making and mending, a mile from the centre of Manchester. We offer access to a wood workshop, DIY workshops, and space for community events.
Our vision is to kick start a new community-led industrial revolution for 21st century Manchester, based on technology, low carbon and sustainable solutions, and a highly skilled population. In the 1980s the Boiler House operated as a district heating system for thousands of homes and has gradually fallen out of use. The building is over 300m2 and comprises of four large workshops, a main hall, offices, reception and terrace. We offer fully equipped woodworking workshop. We run DIY courses for the local community in our purpose built DIY classroom. We have regular free community sessions for local people (e.g. our Men’s Shed and Women’s Shed). We provide pay as you go workbench hire so you can use the workshop yourself for your own projects. We provide a unique space for events. We provide hotdesking in our brand new offices. Visit our new Boiler House website for more information about the space and upcoming events.

[Sow the City’s] proposal for a base in Moss Side is really exciting and the range of activities [they] envisage delivering from there clearly offer potential to improve the health and wellbeing of local residents
