Sow the City have worked in various health settings offering social and therapeutic horticulture activities to benefit service users’ health and wellbeing. Our gardening workshops encourage people to get outside and enjoy the natural environment. We work alongside GP surgeries and hospitals to offer green social prescription opportunities. Watch our video showcasing the Prescribe a Plant scheme here. Our food growing and gardening programmes have been used by organisations within the heath sector to treat people experiencing early stage dementia, mental illness, obesity, and cardio vascular disease. Our approach is a cost effective way to achieve better health outcomes for your patients or service users. Our skilled practitioners will tailor sessions to suit the needs of your groups – e.g. children, refugees or asylum seekers, older people, and patients with mental ill health. We have thorough health and safety policies and procedures in place and can provide a comprehensive evaluation process to measure the impact of our work. We have extensive professional links with other agencies such as public health departments, foundation trusts and NHS England.

Research shows that food growing and gardening can significantly improve people’s health and wellbeing. Spending time on an allotment or in a community garden provides access to fresh and healthy produce, social interaction, exercise, and the therapeutic benefits of nature.
