Sow the City are working with the Achieve Recovery Service, at their centres in Trafford and Salford, to provide a green wellbeing activity programme for people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.
The project is backed by Greater Manchester Mental Health Foundation’s Achieve Asset Fund, promoting recovery through social and educational training activities and support.
Sow the City are running a programme of green care workshops to engage with service users at Achieve Recovery Centres in Sale and Lower Kersal. The centres support people who have received treatment for, and are recovering from, drug and/or alcohol addiction. Service users are involved in creating new spaces for growing as well as planting, caring for and harvesting fresh produce. Initially, Sow the City is working with groups to build new infrastructure on site, teaching valuable practical skills and generating ownership of these spaces. Workshops will range from growing vegetables to fruit pressing, wildlife activities and trips to local community gardens, helping interested service users to continue involvement beyond the bi-weekly sessions.
